No more war! / US Out of Colombia! Defend our civil liberties / Stop racist attacks! Free Palestine!
On April 20-22 a series of protests in Washington will focus the energies of the nation's anti-war/anti-racism movements. Saturday, April 20th begins with an anti-war/pro-civil liberties protest combining the forces of the nation's two largest anti-war coalitions. Actions protesting globalization, the US sponsored war in Colombia, and the barbaric "School of the Americas" continue on Sunday, April 21st. The weekend of protesting for justice culminates in a very focused Monday, April 22nd demonstration against the visit of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, the butcher of Sabra and Shatila who sparked the current round of violence in Palestine with a provocative invasion of a Muslim holy site. President Bush is an invited speaker at the AIPAC conference -- and Sharon will be keynoting.
To facilitate maximum attendance at these important protests, the Chicago Coalition Against War & Racism and other groups are organizing buses both for those who can only attend the April 20th protest and for those who can attend April 20-22. Both sets of buses will depart at 5 pm, Friday, April 19 from Chicago's Grant Park (on Columbus Drive between Monroe and Jackson).
Tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis, and are non-refundable. Meals are all on your own. For those staying April 20-22, housing is also on your own. Please make checks payable to "8th Day Center for Justice," write "DC bus" in the memo section, and mail to CCAWR, c/o 8th Day Center for Justice, 205 W. Monroe, Chicago, IL 60606-5013. For more information, please call Dorothy or Kathleen at the 8th Day Center for Justice, 312.641.5151. Tickets are also available from Illinois Peace Action (312.566.9780, ask for Angela).
