Recent and Upcoming Just Views Programs

Friday, February 8, 2019 – Snacks: 7 pm / Program: 7:20 pm - End of Meat.

This program is co-sponsored with the DuPage UU Animal Ministry, DuPage Animal Rights and Welfare Initiative, and VegFund; we’ll view an exciting, upbeat, new documentary called “The End of Meat”. The filmmaker Marc Pierschel embarks on a journey to discover what effect a post-meat world would have on the environment, the animals, and ourselves. The film reveals the hidden impact of meat consumption; explores the opportunities and benefits of a shift to a more compassionate diet; and raises critical questions about the future role of animals in our society. Before the film, we’ll have light vegan snacks. After the film, we’ll have informal panel discussion about the social justice impact of treating non-human animals as resources. For film trailer, go to http://www.theendofmeat.com/en.html. We welcome active participation and all points of view.

We also encourage you to return to DUUC on Sunday, February 10th at 9:30 or 11:15 AM services for sermon by Robert Grillo of Free From Harm, a non-profit animal rescue, education, and advocacy organization (https://freefromharm.org/). DuPage UU Animal Ministry arranged for this informative, inspiring speaker. Join us for both events or as many as you can.

Friday, March 8, 2019 at 7:20 pm: US Election System Vulnerabilities & Fixes.

Election results have been called into question in certain areas in recent times since 2000. But insight into the problems has been spotty. Hence solutions to insure the transparency security and accuracy of our elections have not been uniformly embraced and implemented. Katie Couric is the Executive Producer of this incisive film: I Voted? written and directed by Jason Grant Smith. See www.ivotedmovie.com/. The filmmakers’ in-depth examination of voting system, tabulation and reporting issues proceeds to show how individual paper ballots and careful post-election audits are important parts of the solution. We'll identify other key parts, as well.

With us for our audience discussion following the screening will be Co-Chair of Illinois Ballot Integrity Project, Melisa Urda, a leading expert in the field. She will provide additional information about our election systems in DuPage County, strengths and weaknesses, and improvements needed and changes already underway here. Bring your family and friends, questions and comments to this interactive program. Your knowledge and participation matters!
