Friday, May 10, 2019 at 7:20 pm: Waging Peace in an Era of Perpetual War.

We are approaching two decades of “perpetual war” by the United States throughout the Middle East and Africa. Military operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, Libya, Niger and Pakistan are begun but never ended. New targets of US warfare keep being added. Perpetual war is rarely debated in the media, Congress, the campaign trail; even the Oval office. How did we get to this point? We’ll begin tonight’s program with a presentation by Walt Zlotow, who will discuss the current state of US perpetual war by looking at the history of warfare and militarism since 1945. To facilitate the discussion to follow, Walt will offer some thoughts on how we as citizens should act as we seek a peaceful world for ourselves and future generations. Walt has been anti-war since entering college in 1963, working against the Vietnam War. In 2002, Walt renewed his activism when he determined the US was preparing to embark on a wholly unnecessary, made up war against Iraq. He writes letters to the editor and blogs frequently at www.heartlandprogressive.blogspot.com.

In the second part of this program, we’ll show related film clips, get updates on recent Chicago Area Peace Action summit, and discuss what we as individuals and groups can do to help end wars and human and environmental catastrophe. All points of view are welcomed for civil multilogue. Join us!
